The Iconic and High-Tech Dubai International Airport

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is the primary airport serving the city of Dubai and the main aviation gateway of the United Arab Emirates. Located in the Al Garhoud district, the airport lies approximately 14 km from downtown Dubai. Often described as a city within a city, DXB ranks among the busiest airports worldwide in terms of passenger traffic and is the global leader in international passenger numbers.

Before the pandemic, Dubai Airport handled more than 89 million passengers annually, while its designed capacity reaches up to 100 million travelers per year. On average, an aircraft departs or lands at DXB every 76 seconds, making it one of the most intensively used aviation hubs on the planet.

Dubai is also served by a second international airport, Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). Although DWC is planned to become the city’s main aviation hub with a future capacity of up to 200 million passengers, it currently operates as a secondary airport.

Home of Emirates and Flydubai

Dubai International Airport is the main hub of Emirates Airlines, one of the world’s largest international carriers, as well as Flydubai, the UAE’s major low-cost airline. Emirates alone handles more than half of all flights to and from the Middle East. Although a future relocation of Emirates to DWC is expected, DXB currently remains a key driver of Dubai’s economy, employing thousands of people and supporting extensive commercial activity.

Eco-Friendly and Forward-Thinking Airport

Dubai International Airport actively contributes to the city’s sustainability goals. In 2019, large-scale solar power systems were installed, significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions and reliance on traditional energy sources.

At the same time, DXB embraces innovation. Smart Gates (E-Gates) allow biometric passport control, while advanced pre-screening procedures and automated systems improve passenger flow and reduce waiting times.
